Academic Staff
Continuing, Contingent Term, and Limited Term academic appointments are filled in accordance with the Academic Appointments Selection Procedures outlined in the GFC Handbook.

Rank Academic Appointments
Rank Academic Appointments are academic appointments of more than twelve months authorized by the Board of Governors. These appointments may be With Tenure or may have Tenure track status.
Rank Academic Appointments which are contingent on the continuation of external funding are restricted to the Cumming School of Medicine.
Sessional Academic Appointments
A Sessional Academic Appointment is a short term position (12 months or less) assigned by the Head, with duties measured in half course equivalents (HCE). These appointments address specific temporary needs under Article 23 of the Collective Agreement and carry no expectation of renewal.
Secondary Roles
Appointees must hold a rank appointment concurrently to the secondary role and the end date must coincide with the rank appointment or be contingent on reappointment or Tenure (as appropriate to the academic’s circumstances).
Non-Employee Academic Appointments
Individuals affiliated with the university who are not employees. These roles are typically arranged through a specific engagement or appointment process, and in many cases the roles are unpaid.
