Drone/UAV Incidents & Accidents

If you are involved in an incident while operating a Drone on university grounds or a university-owned Drone on third party lands, you are required to report the incident to Campus Security at 403.220.5333 as soon as possible. Pilots are also required to complete the documentation below.


Accidents involving UCalgary Owned UAVs

Take pictures of the UAVs involved in the incident and of any damage sustained. Exchange information with any third party involved in the accident.

Complete an incident report with Campus Security ASAP. It will be forwarded to Risk Management & Insurance. If there is a serious accident or injury, call Campus Security immediately (403-220-5333).

If a UCalgary student, employee or volunteer was injured during the incident and required medical treatment or lost time beyond the day of the incident, Workers Compensation (WCB) reports must also be completed.

When Risk Management & Insurance receives the incident report from Campus Security, they may contact you for further details.

Deductibles are charged back to the department (or trust holder, where applicable).

All UCalgary Owned UAVs have a $3000 property deductible.

The department who has engaged the services of the third party contractor is required to contact Risk Management & Insurance at riskmgmt@ucalgary.ca.
