Biography

Jenna is enrolled in engineering and was inspired to enter engineering at a career talk; a chemical engineer shared about her work. She loved the problem-solving aspect of her job and felt like Engineering would be a great fit for her skills and interests. She has always been entrepreneurially minded and plans to operate her own business. She intends to work with a sustainable energy company and learn the industry. She will then develop products and technology to promote environmentally sustainable energy.

Jenna had graduated from Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy in Canmore, Alta. During her high school years, her top three achievements were receiving the highest academic average award and scholarship in Grades 7 through 12, being the team leader of their International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) synthetic biology club that won the Chairman's Award for the best embodiment of the iGEM values, including integrity and excellence, at the 2018 international iGEM competition, and her successful dance career, the highlight of which includes placing in the top six at World Championships.

Having lived in the Alberta Rockies her whole life, she always wanted to attend a university close to her home and family. While attending the Open House sessions, she was impressed with the programs, opportunities, and resources available to students at the University of Calgary. Planning on entering engineering, she was very excited to learn about the excellent engineering program and clubs that are offered at UCalgary. She also wants to continue to actively compete and train with her excellent dance coach who lives in Calgary. Engineering students highly recommended UCalgary to her and further reinforced her desire to attend the university.

This award allows her to complete her undergraduate degree without worrying about financing her education and it also connects her with a community of leaders and innovators from across Canada. She would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who made this possible for her: her parents for their love and endless support, her high school teachers and dance coach for their guidance, and the Schulich Foundation and the University of Calgary for giving her this amazing opportunity.
