Official letters

Access and share your official student letters in secure and verifiable digital formats.

Official student letters are used to confirm your student status. You may need an official letter to open a student bank account, get a credit card, access funding (like RESPs), get student discounts, access health insurance, and so on.

UCalgary’s official letters are issued via MyCreds right to your MyCreds digital wallet. You can securely share them with third parties via MyCreds, by email, or by downloading a PDF version to print and share.

Use of information and privacy

By requesting or sharing your eParchment, you agree to allow UCalgary to share your legal name, student ID, email address, full academic record and official transcript with MyCreds. All personal information that’s collected is used, stored, and destroyed in accordance with the University of Calgary Privacy Policy. 

Types of letters

We offer various official student letters. The type of letter you need will depend on your student status and the purpose of the letter. Learn what's included in each letter, their common uses and more by clicking on each letter type.


Current students

Confirmation of Registration Letters prove you’re currently enrolled at UCalgary. They’re used to confirm registration, program of study, academic standing and course load.

Eligibility:
All students currently enrolled in an active program of study.

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Degree program length and your year/level of program
  • Term enrolment dates, weeks of instruction, enrolment status (full/part-time)
  • List of courses enrolled by term (if applicable)
  • Start/end dates of courses, hours of instruction and units.
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Common uses:
Banking (opening a student account or credit card), accessing funding (RESPs), obtaining student discounts, insurance/health benefit plans and more.

How to order your Confirmation of Registration Letter (PDF)

Eligibility:
All students currently enrolled in an active program of study.

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Degree program length and your year/level of program
  • Term enrolment dates, weeks of instruction, enrolment status (full/part-time)
  • List of courses enrolled by term (if applicable)
  • Start/end dates of courses, hours of instruction, units and tuition per course
  • Full tuition and general fee assessment and breakdown. Please note: You must select “with fee assessment” when requesting your letter if you want the full breakdown of fees to be populated.
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Graduating students

If you’re in your final term and have applied to graduate, you’ll have access to letters confirming your graduation status at various stages:  

  • Applying for graduation  
  • Being cleared for graduation by your faculty (program completion)  
  • Having your degree conferred (awarded) at Convocation 

These graduating student letters automatically update in your MyCreds digital wallet as your graduation status changes. You don’t need to pay for a new letter if you’re within your share window.

If you’ve applied to graduate but your degree hasn’t yet been conferred, you can request an Anticipated to Graduate Letter. This letter will confirm:

  • that you’re anticipated to complete your program
  • the degree you’ll be receiving,
  • the conferral date (the date you’re awarded your degree).

If you request an Applied to Graduate Letter, it’ll automatically update to a Program Completion Letter and a Confirmation of Credential Letter.

NOTE: An Applied to Graduate Letter isn’t sufficient for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) application purposes. You must wait until your Program Completion Letter is available before you can submit your PGWP application. For more information on PGWP, contact International Student Services.

Eligibility:
Students who’ve applied to graduate, but who haven’t yet been cleared for graduation by their faculty.  Students must be in good financial standing with UCalgary to be eligible to receive this letter.

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Date you began your studies
  • Anticipated program completion and conferral dates
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Common uses:
Future employers, future post-secondary institutions, letters of invitation.

How to order Anticipated to Graduate Letter (PDF)

Eligibility:

Students who have had all final grades posted and been reviewed by their home faculty and officially cleared for graduation.  Program completion letters are typically available 4–6 weeks after the end of a term. Timelines may vary by faculty. Students must be in good financial standing with UCalgary to be eligible to receive this letter.

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Date you began your studies
  • Confirmation you have completed all program requirements.
  • Date your degree will be conferred (awarded)
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Common uses:
Post-graduation work permit (PGWP) applications, professional registration/licensing, future employers.

How to order Program Completion Letter (PDF)

When you graduate from UCalgary, your credential will be awarded (conferred) on your ceremony date. After this date, you’ll be eligible to obtain a Confirmation of Credential Letter.

Eligibility:
Students who have had a credential conferred at the University of Calgary. 

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Date you began studies
  • Degree awarded (conferral) date
  • Enrolment status (full/part-time)
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Common uses:

How to order Confirmation of Credential Letter (PDF)


Alumni

If you have received a credential from UCalgary and need to provide proof of your degree, a Confirmation of Credential letter may be one way to verify your credential. 

When you graduate from UCalgary, your credential will be awarded (conferred) on your ceremony date. After this date, you will be eligible to obtain a Confirmation of Credential Letter.

If you no longer remember your login for your Student Centre, you can recover your account.

Eligibility:
Students who have had a credential conferred at the UCalgary.

Information included:

  • Your faculty, program(s) of study and degree(s)
  • Date you began studies
  • Degree awarded (conferral) date
  • Enrolment status (full/part-time)
  • Confirmation of the language of instruction at UCalgary

Common uses:
Post-graduate work permit (PGWP) applications, international work visas.

You can order letters through your Student Centre. Here are the steps:

Potential alternatives

Many third parties don’t require official documentation for confirmation of enrolment. Unofficial documentation can be accessed at no charge through your Student Centre and it may provide the information you require. These include:


FAQs

You can request letters that confirm enrolment for the previous and current academic years (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer). Once you start enrolling for the next academic year, you’ll also be able to request a Confirmation of Registration letter for that year.

There is a small fee to access and share documents. This covers the cost for students to use and access the MyCreds network.

If you’re an incoming first year international student and you’re applying for your study permit for the first time, you should use your letter of admission in your IRCC application.

If you’re already a UCalgary student and need to prove your enrolment, you can use a Confirmation of Registration letter. This is available to both domestic and international students for many purposes, such as traveling home or renewing a study permit. Contact International Student Services for further guidance.

If your document is still within its share period (which varies by document type), you can request an updated Confirmation of Registration letter for the same academic period through the Student Centre. It'll automatically update your MyCreds digital wallet at no extra cost.

You can request the Confirmation of Credential letter only once you’re awarded your degree/credential. This letter will be available on your MyCreds account for six months.

If you've applied to graduate, you can request an Applied to Graduate letter. It’ll automatically update to a Confirmation of Credential letter in your digital wallet once your degree has been awarded (conferred).

You can request the letters through your Student Centre and access your MyCreds account to download and print the document. The fee associated is to view, download and share.

If you download and print your document from MyCreds, the organization receiving it might not accept it as official. This is because they can't verify that it is current.

To request a hard copy of your degree, you’ll need to order a certified copy of your degree through the Enrolment Services Portal. To request a hard copy of your official transcript, visit the Transcripts webpage.

Your Confirmation of Registration will be available as soon as you enrol in a course for the semester you're requesting a letter for. You can access letters for the current semester or for past semesters up to one year old. Your Applied to Graduate letter will become available to you once you’ve applied to graduate.

Your Confirmation of Credential Letter will be available two weeks after the grading deadline at the end of the semester.

No. MyCreds purchases, including share credits, are final and non-refundable. Your share credit stays in your account until you decide to share your document by selecting the blue Share button.
