Biography

Maliha graduated from Mastermind English Medium School in Dhaka, Bangladesh. While there, she is most proud of being awarded the Seymor Schulich Community Service/Entrepreneurial Entrance Award and the Schulich School of Engineering Scholarship.

Maliha chose to study at UCalgary for her undergraduate studies because of the university’s focus on active learning rather than lecture-based learning. It was important to Maliha is be able to apply her learning to practical situations which will prepare her for the future. She also admires the social aspects of UCalgary that are enriched by its diversity as well as its many clubs which create a sense of community to further enrich her learning experience.

Maliha is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science – Engineering program. She chose the engineering program because she wanted to contribute to the advancement of technology and to have an impact on her surroundings through her work.

In the future, Maliha plans to study Electrical Engineering because she wants to work toward the advancement of technology to make everyday life easier. She wants her creative thinking skills and innovative ideas to come to life while facing challenges every step of the way.

For Maliha, the financial strain of education would not have allowed her to study at UCalgary without the award. It allows her to focus on her studies and pursue her academic interests without worrying about access to education.

Maliha’s research interests are around the fields of robotics and mechatronics. More specifically, she is interested in control, micro and nanosystems, and human-machine interfaces. She wants to gain in-depth knowledge about the continuing advancements being made and how to further improve them by thinking outside the box to make lives easier, either by minimizing hazards or by saving time and increasing productivity.
