Biography

Cassidy graduated from Harrison Trimble High School in Moncton, NB. During her time there, she became a member of the 2021-2022 Student Council executive and was named Captain of the HTHS cheerleading team. These allowed her to take a leadership role in the annual Trojan Trek, which raised $15,000 for the NICU at The Moncton Hospital. Outside of class, she also taught dance classes to children aged 3-8 which fueled her love for teaching.

Cassidy was drawn to UCalgary both to experience what the city had to offer and for the opportunity to be a part of the academic community. She appreciated the chance to meet others who are equally driven toward their education through programs such as the First Year Scholars Program and the Scholars Advantage Community. She finds UCalgary a very supportive environment and she does not regret her decision!

Cassidy is enrolled in the Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood Education program. This degree spoke to her as it promises hands-on opportunities to gain experience in the field through courses and practicums.

With her degree, Cassidy plans on becoming an elementary school teacher to have a positive impact on the lives of future students. She also aspired to continue sharing her passion for dance with the community, and may one day open her own dance studio.

The Prestige Award will not only allow Cassidy to engage with the community, but it has also removed the financial burden to support her education. Instead, she plans to focus her time on her studies and extracurriculars.

Cassidy is excited to learn new approaches to teaching and strategies that she can later implement within her classroom to best support her students, focusing on children with learning disabilities. When her brother was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD, she saw first-hand how the education system fails to educate teachers on how to properly accommodate this demographic of learners. Determining an instructional model that services a variety of learning styles has become a personal query of hers and is something she aspires to determine and integrate as she continues exploring her profession.
