The Landon Pearson Resource Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children’s Rights at Carleton University

The awards are named in memory of Dr. Joy Calkin, a pediatric nurse and health care advocate, funded by the Muttart Family
Foundation and created to honour and build on the Hon. Landon Pearson’s children’s rights advocacy work and life-long
dedication to developing a culture of respect for children’s rights in Canada.

Award description

  • Eligibility:
  • Any student at the 3rd or 4th year level, or undertaking graduate studies (MA or PhD) regardless of citizenship or nation, enrolled full-time at a Canadian university in an early childhood, childhood and youth studies, children’s rights, sociology or anthropology of childhood, education, social justice, or related programs are eligible to apply for the award.
  • For the Indigenous Award, First Nations, Métis, or Inuit students 3rd or 4th year students orgraduate students enrolled full-time at a Canadian university studying and taking courses inearly childhood, childhood and youth studies, children’s rights, sociology or anthropology ofchildhood, education, social justice, or related programs are eligible to apply for the award.
  • Funds must be spent on educational expenses directly related to the student’s 3rd or 4th year major research paper, capstone research project for fourth year students; graduate major research paper, MA thesis or PhD dissertation approved by their academic advisor for graduate students. Status and eligibility must be confirmed in the academic letter of recommendation.
