Scent Free Awareness Program

The University of Calgary's Scent Free Awareness Program is a joint health promotion project of University of Calgary Indoor Air Quality Committee, Staff Wellness Centre, Campus Infrastructure and other interested stakeholders. The entire University Community is asked to participate by being more aware of the impact of scented personal care products on the health of others.

Personal care products are defined as the following:
  • Perfume, cologne, aftershave lotion
  • Deodorant
  • Hair care products including shampoos,
    conditioners, gels, mousses, hairsprays
  • Hand and body soap
  • Hand and body lotions
  • Makeup
  • Shaving cream
  • Sunscreen
  • Laundry soap and stain removers
  • Dryer fabric softener sheets
  • Air fresheners, scented candles
The Scent Free Awareness Committee asks for your support in limiting or eliminating the use of scented personal care products whenever possible. We ask that you choose the many unscented alternatives that are available, some that are mentioned in the Scent Free Alternatives section of this website. By making these choices, you will contribute to promoting health and wellness for all members of the University of Calgary Community.

For more information about health effects related to scented personal care products, see the Questions & Answers section of this website.

To contact the Scent Free Awareness Program, send an email to ucsafety@ucalgary.ca.

The Scent Free Awareness Committee would like to thank Dalhousie University for the use of the "We Share the Air" logo and information.
