Message from Associate Dean [Research & Partnership]

Social work is about creating changes for a better society for everyone. Social work research plays an important role in most of these change efforts. Evidence-based practice represents and requires strong integration of research and practice knowledge, expertise, and skills. The Faculty of Social Work cherishes all opportunities to work with social work practitioners, decision makers, and policy makers to create best practice and policy initiatives. Through the Faculty of Social Work, community stakeholders and students are connected with some of the most excellent social work researchers in this country, to create research partnerships, training alliance, practice and policy innovations. Students are provided hands-on opportunities and mentored by experienced faculty researchers, so as to enhance their appreciation and skills for conducting social work research. Community groups and organizations are supporters, partners, and sponsors of research in the Faculty of Social Work, all working together to strive for research and practice excellence. Evidence-based practice knowledge, skills, and expertise are shared through the excellent training courses and programs provided through the Faculty and the Centre for Social Work Research and Professional Development, a faculty-based research centre. On behalf of the Faculty, I welcome everyone in the social work community to be a partner with the Faculty of Social Work, contributing to the creation of excellence for our profession.
