
Training
To help build community preparedness at UCalgary, Emergency Management offers multiple training opportunities for faculty and staff throughout the year. Registration for UCalgary courses is managed through Enterprise Learning and free of charge.
Emergency Preparedness Training
Online delivery
- Required training for all Emergency Wardens and Senior Emergency Wardens
Emergency Warden Training reviews evacuation procedures and describes in detail the responsibilities and duties of warden volunteers during an emergency. Learners have seven days to complete the training once they begin and they must achieve at least 80 percent on the test for successful completion.
Classroom delivery

Learn the right way to use a fire extinguisher with hands-on learning on a state-of-the-art training tool equipped with sensors and a digital flame that goes out when you properly use the laser-driven infrared extinguisher.
Prerequisite: Fire Safety Training
Online delivery
- Recommended training for all employees
Know how to prevent fires and be ready if a fire breaks out. Fire Safety Training teaches common causes of fire in the workplace, hazards to look out for, emergency procedures and how to respond when faced with a fire. You will also learn to recognize the different types of fires and fire extinguishers.
Classroom delivery

Naloxone Training is provided by Staff Wellness. Participants will learn to recognize and respond to the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and prepare yourself to save a life.
Training covers: signs of an overdose, rescue breathing, preparing and administering an intramuscular naloxone injection, and assessing naloxone response. Participants will receive a free naloxone kit as part of the Alberta Health Services Community Based Naloxone Program.

Own your personal safety and learn how to respond to threats and active assailant situations. We’ll cover important information about UC Emergency Mobile, and the other UCalgary resources in place to ensure students, faculty, staff and guests are safe in our community.

- Recommended Training for all Calgarians
Ready Calgary is a community preparedness program developed by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) for the citizens of Calgary. It has been designed to inform, educate and build resiliency to the impacts of emergencies. The course encourages safety at home, in the workplace, neighbourhood and community. Become a leader in your community and help empower a resilient network of prepared citizens.
Classroom delivery

Learn to effectively use the 80+ Stop the Bleed Kits located across campus, and empower yourself to save a life during an uncontrolled bleeding emergency.
This hands-on training session uses theatrical blood and wound simulators, and rehearses scenarios that some people may find upsetting — use discretion when choosing to participate and wear appropriate clothing.
Prerequisite: Personal Safety Awareness Training
