Violet King Engaged Scholar Award
Scholar Amanda Tamakloe has recieved the Violet King Engaged Scholar Award. The award recognizes the talents and achievements of Black, racialized and Indigenous engaged scholars.
Erik Barrett named as a finalist for McCall MacBain Scholarships
The McCall MacBain Foundation has recognized two University of Calgary students for their outstanding leadership, community involvement, and academic achievement. One of the two includes Scholars Academy student Erik Barrett, from the Schulich School of Engineering.
Top 30 Under 30 Award Recipients
Alumnus Bilal Shakir and Scholars Douye Igoniderigha and Thomas Tri have been recognized as recipients of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) Top 30 Under 30 Award!

Scholars Gurjit Gill and Rakshit Narayanan Devaraj Baskar received Teaching Assistant Awards in this year’s SU Teaching Excellence Awards, recognizing their outstanding contributions to student learning.
Muhammad and his team won medal at the annual BIOMOD Jamboree in Japan
Muhammad Ansari, scholar and president of the Biomedical Engineering Research and Innovation Team (BMERIT), played a key role in the development of DNADetect, a biosensor designed for speed Alzheimer’s detection.

Erik and his team explore new ways of recycling electric vehicle batteries
Scholar Erik Barrett and his team from the Schulich School of Engineering created a project, RenewVolt. The project focuses on developing a process to recover and recycle the critical metals EV batteries used, aiming to reduce emissions and minimize material waste in the growing EV industry.
Canadian Regional Award Recipient
Scholar Thomas Tri has been recognized as an Canadian Regional Award Recipient of the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarships program.
This award for Canadian applicants, valued at $5,000, supports his pursuit of a full-time master’s or professional program at McGill or any public university in Canada.
International Regional Award Recipient
Howard Leong has been recognized as an International Regional Award Recipient of the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarships program.
This award for international applicants, valued at $10,000, supports his pursuit of a full-time master’s or professional program at McGill or any public university in Canada.
2024 Cannon Lachapelle Award winners
The 2024 Cannon Lachapelle Award, presented by the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, goes to four winners, three of whom are current members of Scholars Academy: Lujaina Eldelebshany, James Gu, and Declan Sander.

The University of Calgary is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the President’s Award for Excellence in Student Leadership. The award recognizes exceptional graduating students who have a record of academic achievement, consistently demonstrate leadership and make significant contributions to our community. Recipients include Scholars Academy students Catharine Bowman, Ruth Legese, and Hannah Rahim.
