Students will be required to provide proof of identity for in-course assessments, online assessments, final examinations and deferred final examinations upon request. The University of Calgary (UNICARD) or government issued photo ID are accepted forms of proof of identity.

Proof of identity is required to be placed on desks for the duration of the final examination.

A student who is not able to provide acceptable proof of identity may be permitted to continue to write the examination or to participate in the assessment if the student agrees to provide identification within one business day of the assessment. The student may be required to complete a student verification form. If verification is not provided, the student will be referred to the Dean of their home faculty for consideration of disciplinary action.

A student who refuses to produce identification or who refuses to complete and sign the student verification form will not be permitted to write the examination. The circumstances will be reported immediately to the Dean of the home faculty for consideration of disciplinary action and to the Registrar.

In addition to providing proof of identity, to be eligible to participate in a final examination students must adhere to the following:

1. The student must be registered in the course (e.g., appears on the official class roster).

2. The student must have submitted a substantial proportion of the course assignments as per the course outline unless arrangements have been made under section G.1.2 In-Course Assessments and Absences.

3. A student may be refused permission to write a final examination or participate in a final assessment in a course, on the recommendation of the instructor and with the approval of the Dean or designate.

Students are expected to follow the Academic Misconduct and Non-Academic Misconduct policies during in-course assessments and final examinations. Instructors will provide guidelines for students to follow which may include authorized items permitted in an assessment or examination and expectations on general student behaviour.

If an instructor/proctor suspects a student is in violation of one of these policies, including an attempt to impersonate, they can take necessary actions to verify and/or address suspicious activity. If a student refuses to co-operate with an instructor/proctor, immediate action may be taken, and the student may be investigated under either the Academic Misconduct policy or Non-Academic Misconduct policy.
