An overview of advanced disability theory. Topic will be explored through disability theory, social and political understandings of disability, power relations and the centrality of the experience of people with disabilities in the study and implementation of theory and advocacy.

An in-depth view of the impact of bioethics on social policy, disability studies, disability research and the lives of disabled people. Furthermore, it links bioethics discussions to professional code of ethics.

Community Rehabilitation 547       Health Research, Emerging Technologies and Marginalized Groups
Provides an in-depth global outlook on new, envisioned and emerging sciences and technologies and their global impact on (a) disabled people and disability studies; (b) the concept and field of rehabilitation and identity of rehabilitation professionals; (c) the concept of health professionals. Also provides an understanding of how disability studies scholars and rehabilitation and health policy, systems and care delivery scholars and professionals can enrich the new, envisioned and emerging science and technology and governance of science and technology discourse.

Community Rehabilitation 553       Disability and the Body
Disability, impairment and the body in social, cultural and historical contexts. Topics include biomedical understandings of the body, diagnosis, rehabilitation practices and medical treatment. Course uses an intersectional approach with readings of advanced critical disability theory.
