What you will learn in this program
Educators ask questions such as: How do classroom dynamics impact learning? Are there new ways to engage students? Do learning styles affect test scores?
Can’t wait to be a teacher?
Our four-year BEd is the fastest pathway to becoming a certified teacher, and is for high school or transfer applicants. Students will be able to declare an area of concentration, allowing them to gain subject matter expertise for their desired teachable subject area. All available concentrations can be found under our 'Admission Requirements' tab.
Want to earn two degrees at the same time?
Our concurrent BEd program allows you to earn two degrees in just five years of full-time study. Whether you’re interested in elementary or secondary education, our programs will provide you with theoretical and practical experiences that’ll help you establish an enriching career. You’ll also be able to select a curriculum area to specialize in, and will graduate with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts, Kinesiology, or Science. All available degree combinations can be found under our 'Teachable Subject Areas and Co-Degree Majors' tab.
Already have a degree?
If you’ve already completed a degree and would like to pursue your dream of becoming a teacher, our two-year after-degree BEd is for you. Choose between the elementary or secondary routes, select your preferred teachable subject area, and graduate with an education degree after just two years of full-time study. Students can find a list of Specializations under our 'Admission Requirements' tab.
Reside in a rural and remote area of Alberta?
Our four-year and after-degree community-based BEd pathways allow you to complete course work online and gain classroom experience within a rural or remote community. You’ll receive continual support and guidance from our Calgary-based Undergraduate Programs in Education office over the course of your studies. In the community-based program, you’ll select your preferred teachable subject area from the following options: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies.

I would like to teach because I believe that it empowers young people. I think if you give them an education and the chance to make their goals, they will go forward in the world and do great things. I want to be a teacher because when the light bulb turns on for a student, there’s no better feeling in the entire world. When that happens, you know you’ve done something for that student.
