The Bachelor of Education is an undergraduate degree that will prepare you for careers in education. It combines theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experiences, leading to K-12 certification in Alberta. The Werklund School of Education offers five BEd pathways and nearly 30 teachable subject areas of expertise – find the pathway that’s right for you!
Choosing a Bachelor of Education is ideal if you're passionate about shaping future generations. The program is designed to provide you with a foundation for teaching careers in K-12 classrooms and the opportunity to inspire and positively impact your students’ lives. You'll develop skills in instruction, communication, collaboration, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, organization, and design-based thinking. Specialized courses focus on STEM, Indigenous Ways of Knowing and digital technologies.
The University of Calgary offers five pathways to obtain your Bachelor of Education, presenting plenty of options for you to find your best fit. We offer teachable subject areas in elementary, secondary, and kindergarten through grade twelve routes.
Education graduates are prepared to teach in Alberta’s K-12 classrooms, and may also pursue careers in curriculum development, instructional design, consulting, training, and other specialist roles. A Bachelor of Education provides foundational skills in communication and leadership.
You'll take courses in STEM education, inclusive learning, pedagogical design and Indigenous education. You can also choose senior courses covering complex classrooms, the first-year teacher and child development.
You'll complete a total of 20 weeks of in-classroom Field Experience where you can turn education theory into practice.
Explore education topics, from policies to teaching methods. Through research awards or the Honours program, you can develop critical thinking and contribute to evidence-based teaching practices.
