Dr. John Archibald (Ph.D. Toronto) is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Linguistics and Associate Director of the Language Research Centre (also former Director), and former Associate Dean (Student Affairs and Programs) of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
He has been on a variety of adjudicating committees for SSHRC, and the National Science Foundation, as well as the Hong Kong Research Council, and is currently on the editorial boards of Second Language Research (of which he is incoming co-editor) and Studies in Second Language Acquisition. He is Past-President of the Canadian Linguistic Association.
He specializes in the field of second language acquisition, particularly second language phonology (sound systems). He is author or editor of 9 books, author of approximately 25 journal articles and book chapters, and has been an invited speaker at many international conferences in places such as Sweden, Holland, Poland, the United States, Austria, Germany and Canada.
