RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr.Epstein's main research work has centered around the various aspects of modern Continuum Mechanics and its applications. A secondary related area of interest is Biomechanics.

Current research activities:

  • Theoretical and applied aspects of continuous distributions of dislocations in crystalline media, with particular emphasis on large-deformation plasticity. This project is carried out in conjunction with the French CNRS and the Spanish CSIC.
  • Mechanics and Energetics of Skeletal Muscle. This project is a joint effort with Dr. Herzog of the Human Performance Laboratory at the Faculty of Kinesiology.
  • A novel approach to the mechanics of granular media, based on the idea of cellular automata.
