Search the Herbarium Collection

The herbarium at the U of C (located in the basement of the Biosciences building) houses an extensive collection of preserved plants from Alberta and around the world dating back to the 19th century. We are currently constructing an online database of the specimens within this collection (note: some specimens are not yet uploaded into online system).

Please note that the online specimens are named by current taxonomic standards. As such, the taxonomic name for a species may have changed from the original determination. To see the original determination, please reference the picture of the specimen which will contain this data. The USDA PLANTS database has taxonomic resources that may be able to help you if you run into problems.
