The Faculty of Arts is mourning the loss of retired history professor Egmont Lee who passed away on Dec. 16.
Professor Lee was an accomplished scholar, a beloved teacher and an avid promoter of the international student experience. His area of specialty was the Italian Renaissance and for several years he directed the Canadian Academic Centre in Italy. This experience earned him an invitation to join the Roman Gruppo dei Romanisti. He also received the Premio Daria Borghese, an honour conferred annually on a non-Italian scholar on the history of Rome.
As another highlight of his academic career Lee initiated the development of the long running Calgary Institute for the Humanities.
Lee will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Valeria Sestieri Lee, his daughters Barbara and Simone, and by his grandchildren Federico, Beatrice, Julia and Theodore.
