Bill Costerton

Bill Costerton passed away peacefully on May 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving and harmonious family.

Bill was an associate professor (1970 - 75) and professor (1975 - 1993) in the Faculty of Science while at the University of Calgary, where his pioneering research in the area of biofilms would revolutionize the science of microbiology.

Bill appeared in the 40th anniversary edition of U Magazine after his research was selected as one of the top 40 ways the University of Calgary has changed the world. He was a mesmerizing speaker and an outstanding teacher who was admired by his students.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at St. Paul's Cathedral, Kamloops. Memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – Calgary.
