William (Bill) T. Warden

William (Bill) WardenWilliam (Bill) WardenWilliam T. (Bill) Warden was born June 16, 1934 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He lived a full and rewarding life, highlighted by numerous adventures as a diplomat in Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs. After an illustrious career overseas as an ambassador and international election observer, Bill joined the University of Calgary as an adjunct professor in 1986. Shortly after, he became the director for the International Centre at the University of Calgary and remained in the role from 1988-1998.

Bill also served as board chairman of the University of Calgary-Gorbachev Foundation Joint Trust Fund (1994-98) and on the board of Operation Eyesight Universal. Bill has always been heavily involved in communities, both locally and abroad. He was a columnist on international relations for the Calgary Herald 1990-1996. In 2005, Bill was recognized with the Order of the University of Calgary for his essential contributions to the U of C’s journey in becoming recognized as an internationally oriented university.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Church of our Lord, 626 Blanshard Street, in Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory can be made to the VSPCA, an organization in India devoted to the protection and care of street animals.
