Transportation of Dangerous Goods

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) is regulated by Transport Canada. Dangerous goods are defined as "a product, substance, or organism included by its nature or by the regulations in any of the classes listed in schedule to the Act." Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992. You can access the TDG Act and Regulations in both official languages.

Many goods we routinely transport as private citizens are regulated when they are transported in an occupational capacity. Most insurance companies will void your automobile insurance if you transport dangerous goods in a vehicle not specifically insured for that purpose. Training will be required to transport some of these goods when on the job.

Contact hazmat@ucalgary.ca to ascertain if you need training before you transport any dangerous goods. We provide training in TDG for ground transportation only.
