About Cont Ed / Prof Dev

The continuing professional education program of the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary is dedicated to furthering excellence in professional social work by delivering relevant and flexible continuing education programs of high quality that meet the life long needs of social workers. The goal of the program is to develop professional knowledge and skills at the post graduate level for advancing the vision of creating social well-being and just societies. We also welcome allied human service professionals and the community to our program.

Please note that the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work is one of the approved providers of Category “A” activities for the Alberta College of Social Workers continuing competency program. Unless otherwise noted, all our offerings are approved for Category “A” credits.

The Faculty is continuing to develop and expand the continuing education program, including workshops, graduate credit and non-credit certificate programs and best practice seminars. Areas of interest identified by social workers and faculty include: leadership, diversity, program planning and evaluation, ethics, community development, clinical practice, children and families, mental health, gerontology, aboriginal community capacity building. In order to address the concerns of accessibility to quality professional development activities for professionals outside of Calgary, we are also expanding our e-learning courses.

The workshops are facilitated by experts who are known locally, nationally and internationally. The workshops are one of the means of research findings informing the practice and thereby bridging the gap between research and professional practice. Much of the workshops are skill based and the participants will leave a session with knowledge and tools that will enhance their practice.

Please let us know your needs and interests and check this site for new offerings. We look forward to expanding our networks within the community and continuing to promote professional excellence and lifelong learning.
