Hot Works and Dust Program

The university has developed and implemented a comprehensive Hot Work and Dust Program to ensure all work on campus that generates heat or smoke is properly supervised to prevent false fire alarms and unnecessary business interruptions.

Persons responsible for causing fire alarms and subsequent business interruptions to the University of Calgary community by failing to abide by university policies and procedures will be invoiced in the amount of $1500. Prime Contractors are responsible for the actions of any sub-contractors in their employ.

Hot Work Permits are required for:

  • all temporary operations involving open flames or producing heat and/or spark
  • all hot work operations that suspend or affect the operation of the fire alarm system.
