Academic Freedom
A core value at the University of Calgary, academic freedom is the cornerstone of the institution’s commitment to creating an environment where creativity and critical thinking can flourish.
Academic freedom is the ability to teach, research, publish, engage in professional academic bodies, perform creative works and other scholarly activities pursued by academic staff without fear of censorship or retribution.
UCalgary’s complete definition of academic freedom is outlined in Article 6 of the Collective Agreement with the Faculty Association of the University of Calgary.
