Biography

Lulu graduated with B. Sc. (1985) and M.Sc. (1988) in Molecular Cell Biology. Lulu has been conducting different research projects in cell biology, molecular biology, cancer research, developmental biology, medical genetics and microbiology at Xiamen University, the University of Maryland at College Park, the University of Alberta, Cross Cancer Institute and the University of Calgary. Over the years Lulu has gained lots of experience in managing and administrating labs and research activities (quoting/ordering through PeopleSoft acquisition and P-Card, P-Card Reconciliation, lab safety inspection/audit/maintenance, biosafety permit application, lab orientation for new personnel, chemical/waste disposal via Chematix).

After joining Dr. Marc Strous’ research group in February 2014, Lulu has assisted Campus Alberta Innovates Program Chairs Dr. Marc Strous and Dr. Casey Hubert and contributed to successfully set up new labs for Energy Bioengineering and Geomicrobiogy Research Groups. The major responsibilities include new equipment preparation and coordination for installation, training, application development and maintenance.

As the Lab Manager for Dr. Marc Strous, Lulu works together with Dr. Casey Hubert’s Lab Manager Carmen Li to guide colleagues on safety training, provide lab orientations and ensure everyone in the group following all university policies and EBG rules properly. Lulu is managing the organization and administration of the laboratories and research activities.
