Filming and Photography on Campus

Our campuses have already appeared in High School, My Life with the Walter Boys and more, offering an extensive range of locations and backdrops. Whether your production is a feature film, TV series, commercial or editorial shoot, our Events and Accommodations team will help you coordinate location scouting, and on-site logistics.

Please note: currently only Main Campus is available. 

All commercial filming and photography on University of Calgary property requires advance notice of at least 30 days before production. Follow the outlined steps below to complete this process.

Step 1: Initial inquiry & location scout

Submit a location scout request to the Events and Accommodations office with your proposed dates, locations and production details. 

Any proposed set decoration or modifications to university property must be approved in writing prior to filming and all areas must be restored to their original condition upon completion.

Step 2: Permit request

All permit requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance and must include proof of insurance, naming "The Governors of The University of Calgary" as additional insured. Once we receive your submission, we will contact you to request payment and the signed contract agreement, which must be submitted at least 72 hours before your first production date.

Step 3: Confirmation and logistics

Once approved, the Events and Accommodations team will connect you with Campus Security, Facilities Management and relevant building managers to confirm access, parking and power arrangements. Productions not affiliated with the university are required to maintain the anonymity of the University of Calgary in all promotional materials and credits unless otherwise agreed in writing.

All location fees are non-refundable. Cancellations within 72 hours of the scheduled shoot will incur full charges, including staffing and service fees. Rescheduling requests are accommodated on a best-effort basis, subject to availability and approval.
