Buildings must relate to adjacent form for there to be a feeling of continuity throughout a community. Massing should be generally consistent throughout an area. Attention must be paid to the relationship between the size of the building and the pedestrian: when the buildings dwarf the pedestrian, they are out of the human scale. |

The objective of the mixed use zoning designation is to encourage a mix of commercial and residential uses in an area. With the implementation of this strategy commercial areas will be unable to have only a single function - they will have to have a residential component. Whereas most commercial areas become desolate after the shops close, mixed-use areas have a 24-hour vitality due to their residential component in which people participate in a diverse range of activities. |
