5.2.3 Program in Honours Chemical Physics

This program is offered in conjunction with the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Admission and Student Standing

Applications to Honours Chemical Physics are accepted:

  • Directly from High School into Honours Chemical Physics (see Section 3.2 Admission).
  • As space permits, the Honours Chemical Physics will accept students who have completed Chemistry 211 and 213, Applied Mathematics 217 or Mathematics 251 or 249 or 265 or 275 or Mathematics 277, Mathematics 211 or 213, Computer Science 217, Physics 221 or 227 with a grade of "C-" or better in each course and meet the Honours qualifications set out in Subsection 3.2 – Honours programs.
  • Additionally, as space permits, application to Honours Chemical Physics will be accepted from students who meet the Honours qualifications as set out in 3.2 Admission – Honours Programs, and have followed a program consistent with the one set out in the Suggested Program Sequence below.

Notes:

  • Students admitted directly from High School into the Honours Chemical Physics are encouraged to sign up also for the Graduation Guarantee, Subsection 3.4.A.
  • Any student in an Honours program is subject to the provisions for continuation in an Honours program, Subsections 3.2 and 3.4D.
  • GPA requirements for Honours programs

End of Year 1, 2 and 3 Year 4 and Graduation
3.300 or above: satisfactory standing 3.300 or above: BSc Honours degree
Less than 3.300: transfer out of Honours Chemical Physics* 2.000 to less than 3.300: BSc degree

*Students who do not qualify for continuation probably should considering transferring into one of the Chemistry, Physics or Natural Sciences programs provided they meet the continuation requirements for those programs. Students with a GPA of less than 2.000 are subject to the provisions of 3.7 Student Standing, A. Performance Review, Probationary Status and Dismissal.
