Hunter Hub Student Ambassadors

Program Overview
The Hunter Hub Student Ambassador Program is a one-year leadership experience for UCalgary students who are ready to take the next step in their Hunter Hub journey. As an ambassador, you’ll gain hands-on experience in communication and outreach while representing the Hunter Hub across campus and within Calgary’s broader innovation ecosystem.
You won’t just follow a task list. You’ll have opportunities to take ownership, contribute your perspective and bring your own ideas to the table.
$1,000 annual stipend | 4–5-hour time commitment a month | Minimum 3 Hunter Hub events per semester | September – April

Who can apply?
To be eligible, you must:
- Undergraduate or graduate students from any UCalgary faculty
- Be in your second year of study or above.
- Have at least one year remaining in your program to complete the full ambassador term.
- Have participated in a Hunter Hub program or be a current Innovation Sandbox member.

What will you do?
There’s no single ambassador experience. Throughout the year, you’ll have opportunities to:
- Represent the Hunter Hub at events and activities across UCalgary
- Connect with students and introduce them to entrepreneurial thinking and Hunter Hub opportunities
- Participate in recruitment activities such as tabling, postering and peer outreach
- Attend select events within Calgary’s broader innovation ecosystem
- Share your Hunter Hub experience through speaking and storytelling opportunities
- Provide student insight and feedback to the Hunter Hub team
- Collaborate with your ambassador cohort

Have an idea? Bring it to the table.
- Ambassadors are encouraged to propose their own initiatives, from workshops and events to new ways of engaging students. Where there’s alignment with the Hunter Hub’s goals and capacity, we’ll explore how to bring your idea to life.

Time Commitment
The program is designed to fit alongside your studies, with an expected commitment of approximately 4–5 hours per month.
As a Hunter Hub Ambassador, you’ll:
- Attend onboarding in September
- Complete ambassador training
- Participate in monthly team meetings
- Take part in at least two Hunter Hub events
- Represent the Hunter Hub professionally and authentically
- Participate in a year-end reflection and feedback session

Selected students will join the first cohort of Hunter Hub Student Ambassadors and begin onboarding in September.

Successful candidates will be notified by September 14th 20206.
Any event where you're actively representing the Hunter Hub counts, including program finales like Liftoff and the Business Playbook Showcase, UCalgary or Hunter Hub open houses and info nights, Start Something Weekend or Summit, and speaking engagements with the STEM Innovation Academy.
Any event you attend on or off campus as an ambassador counts, along with time spent speaking in classrooms, putting up posters, or hosting an information booth on behalf of the Hunter Hub. Hosting your own event within the Hunter Hub space counts too.
Let us know ahead of time. We'll do our best to schedule meetings at times that work for all ambassadors, and we understand that life gets in the way sometimes, especially with everyone balancing coursework and life outside of school. Meetings are hosted in person, but if you can't attend, you're welcome to join online or catch up through meeting notes afterward.
Ambassadors are encouraged to bring forward ideas for their own initiatives. Submit a proposal through the template on D2L, and we'll work with you to find an approach that fits your idea, our team's capacity, and our strategic priorities.
You can also propose off-campus events you'd like to attend, explaining how your presence would benefit the Hunter Hub. We'll regularly suggest opportunities too, like Calgary Innovation Week or Platform Calgary's Launch Party, but if you find one you're excited about, feel free to propose it. We'll do our best to make it work.
The program kicks off on September 21 with an onboarding session, followed by monthly ambassador meetings throughout the year. Beyond that, your time commitment is largely up to you. An event sign-up schedule will be available through D2L, so you can choose events that fit your own schedule while working toward your participation requirements.
