A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS
Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.
B. MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS AND NORMAL SEQUENCE
The BFA in Drama requires the successful completion of the following program of study, which includes 10.0 to 14.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Drama:
First Year
- Drama 200, 223, 225, 240
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in English
- 1.5 full-course equivalents in non-Drama options
Second Year
- Drama 340
- An additional 2.0 full-course equivalents in Drama at the 300 level or above
- 1.0 full-course equivalent selected from courses in Art, Art History, Dance, Film, Music and/or courses at the 300 level or above in Drama
- 1.0 full-course equivalent in non-Drama options
Third Year
- 1.0 full-course equivalent from Drama 355 and 357 or 440
- An additional 2.0 full-course equivalents in Drama at the 300 level or above
- 1.0 full-course equivalent selected from courses in Art, Art History, Dance, Film, Music and/or courses at the 300 level or above in Drama
- 1.0 full-course equivalent in non-Drama options at the 300 level or above
Fourth Year
- 1.0 full-course equivalent in Drama at the 300 level or above
- 2.0 full-course equivalents in non-Drama options at the 300 level or above
- 2.0 full-course equivalents in open options
Notes:
- Drama 225 is a three-credit, half course normally offered in the Fall Term. Drama 223 is also a three-credit, half course but it runs over the entire year and students must register in both “A” and “B” parts. Consequently, first year course loads for the Fall are 4.5 half courses and for Winter 5.5 half courses. This will still maintain full-time status, however, students are advised to contact a Program Advisor at the Student Success Centre for information concerning their registration.
- The Department offers the opportunity for selected students to complete a professional theatre internship with local professional theatre organizations while registered in Drama 591 and 593 (see 4.20.4).
- Students intending to pursue graduate studies in Drama are reminded that most Canadian universities require a reading knowledge of at least one modern language other than English; in this respect, students are advised to exercise their options to their best advantage.
