Education Teacher Preparation 503 M

Learning & Teaching

Inquiry into what constitutes worthwhile learning and teaching and what it means to be a teacher and a learner from a variety of perspectives, including historical, cultural, psychological, experiential and ethical. The focus is on maintaining a dynamic relationship between theory and practice and developing an in-depth understanding of the diverse forms and process of teaching and learning in specific contexts. Topics of investigation include, but are not limited to: images of learners and learning, conditions for learning, conceptions and patterns of growth and development, assessment of/for learning, teacher beliefs, ethical dimensions of teaching and life in classrooms.

Education Teacher Preparation 507 M

Curriculum Contexts & Studies

Inquiry into the subject matters of teaching and learning in terms of form, content, and processes of curriculum making, implementation, and assessment. This will include, but not be limited to, investigations into the nature of curriculum as planned and lived. The dynamic context of curriculum will also be a focus for study: historical antecedents, cultural perspectives, ideological underpinnings, disciplinary forms and their interdependencies.

Prerequisites: Education Teacher Preparation 503.

Education Teacher Preparation 510 M(3-2S-28)

Praxis

Extensive practicum focused on inquiry, reflective planning, teaching, and assessment practices. Students must design and facilitate case analyses during weekly seminars.

Prerequisites: Education Teacher Preparation 503 and 507.

Identity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Integration of theoretical and practical understandings of teaching and learning. Emphasis placed on the relationships among teaching and learning, institutional contexts, professional ethics, and moral dimensions of education.
