Career Services and Leadership and Student Engagement offices merge to create Centre for Career and Personal Development

Shared goal to create outstanding student experiences

Centre for Career & Personal Development

A shared goal of providing students with exemplary support and guidance has brought two University of Calgary offices together to create the Centre for Career and Personal Development (CCPD).

The Career Services (CS) and Leadership and Student Engagement (LSE) offices are now together as one office working to bridge a critical gap between career and personal development.

“By bringing together the fantastic work happening in both offices, we are set to create a transformative student experience that goes beyond what we’ve achieved individually,” says Shawna Bava, MSW’09, director of CCPD.

There are four interconnected programming areas that guide CCPD’s work:

Career education
Leadership development
Life design
Student life

“This merger will help UCalgary achieve postgraduate employment targets as well as the university’s Ahead of Tomorrow strategic plan,” says Bava.

How students can benefit from CCPD

CCPD is opening pathways for career preparedness for students through unique programs, work experiences and workshops. Advisers provide guidance for students to find ways that enhance or strengthen their skills and unique talents. Students experiencing roadblocks when articulating skills and accomplishments can also connect with advisers for support. From large-scale career fairs to intimate campfire chats, students can expect to find a variety of offerings through CCPD that fit their specific needs or style.

Location

CCPD is in the same space that Career Services previously occupied, MacEwan Student Centre (MSC) 188, across from the Life Design Hub.

Hours of operation

CCPD is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students can book advising appointments through Elevate that better meet their needs or stop by during drop-in hours.

The campus community is advised that any references to the Career Services or Leadership and Student Engagement offices be replaced with the Centre for Career and Personal Development.
