4.18.1 BA in Dance

A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.

B. MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS AND NORMAL SEQUENCE

The BA in Dance requires the successful completion of the following program of study, which includes 11.0 to 15.5 full-course equivalents in the Field of Dance:

First Year

  • Dance 207, 209, 235, 247 and 267.
  • Dance 311 or 321 and 313 or 323.
  • 0.5 full-course equivalents from outside the Field of the Fine Arts but within the Faculties of Arts, Kinesiology and Science.
  • 1.0 full-course equivalents in open options.

Second Year

  • Dance 251 or Music Theory and Composition 351
  • Dance 305, 307, 331, 333, 341, 345, and 363.
  • 1.0 full-course equivalents from outside the Field of the Fine Arts but within the Faculties of Arts, Kinesiology and Science.

Third Year

  • Dance 405, 407, 449, 391, and 491.
  • Dance 427 or 481 (see the note below).
  • 0.5 full-course equivalents from outside the Field of Dance but within the Field of the Fine Arts.
  • 1.5 full-course equivalents in open options in open options.

Fourth Year

  • Dance 427 or 481 (see the note below).
  • 0.5 full-course equivalents from outside the Field of Dance but within the Field of the Fine Arts.
  • 1.5 full-course equivalents from outside the Field of the Fine Arts but within the Faculties of Arts, Kinesiology and Science at the 300-level or above.
  • 2.5 full-course equivalents in open options.

Notes:

  • Dance 427 and 481 are offered in alternating years. These courses are required without exception. Students must arrange their schedules to accommodate the alternating timetable.
  • “Fine-Arts (non-Dance) options” can be chosen from courses in the Fields of Art, Drama, and Music; and courses labeled Fine Arts.
