What is Open Studies

As an Open Studies student, you'll be eligible to take university credit courses, without being admitted into a degree program.

If you're a visiting student, you'll apply through the Open Studies application form, but you're not required to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Find out more about studying at UCalgary as a visiting student.

How to apply

  1. Review our Open Studies admission requirements.

  2. To apply for Open Studies you must create an eID.

  4. Submit all transcripts, including proof of English language proficiency (if applicable).

Supporting documents

If you’ve studied in Alberta, the University of Calgary will obtain transcripts on your behalf from the Ministry of Education.

If you’ve studied outside Alberta, it’s your responsibility to request transcripts from any non-Alberta institutions to be sent to directly to the university’s admissions office.
