There are many opportunities on- and off-campus that will help you build skills that employers are seeking. Taking time to gain career experience while you study will also help you explore career paths. In addition to the opportunities listed here, volunteer work can be an excellent way to gain experience.

Co-op and Internships

These hands-on learning opportunities provide valuable work experience. Co-op and internships are administered by faculties on campus. Advisors at the Centre for Career and Personal Development can help prepare.

A micro-placement connects students with employers to complete a short project. These projects typically take 30 to 40 hours and provide an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop skills while exploring a career path or industry of interest.

Peer helper positions are available across campus. A peer helper is a non-paid, leadership role that is open to all students. This is an opportunity to gain experience while contributing to UCalgary’s community.
