Tuesday Events

The New Student Induction Ceremony is your official welcome to UCalgary, and a book-end to the convocation ceremony you'll attend when you complete your degree. A lively pep rally and faculty cheer-off will be followed by honoured speakers, including University President Ed McCauley and SU President Jessica Revington. Afterwards, head outside for the President’s New Student BBQ where members of our senior administration will serve up a tasty lunch.

Learn your faculty cheer and get to know your peers before heading to the New Student Induction Ceremony. Your Orientation Leader will give you a t-shirt and wristband that'll get you in to both the President’s BBQ and KICKOFF.

Did you know the colour of your Orientation t-shirt matches the colour of the hood you'll wear at Convocation? Enjoy the pep-rally, ceremony and speeches before you head outside to the President’s BBQ.

Enjoy your personalized tour of campus from your Orientation Leader, who is also a senior student with plenty of helpful navigation tips, location information and anecdotes about various locations on campus. 

Tuesday night, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., is Carnival night! Connect on campus at MacEwan Hall with other new students for an evening of carnival games, pet therapy, music and other interactive activities.

Get together and find a community on campus, Unwind presents various social opportunities on campus that you can drop into whenever you have time. This free, weekly, get-together kicks off on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Connect in TFDL Quad for LEGO, colouring, snacks, and more!

Wednesday Events

Attend a special orientation hosted by your faculty to learn about student advising, academic expectations and more. Also, be sure not to miss the production of #UNI, a play from the School of Creative and Performing Arts that offers a hilarious and moving look at different situations that you could encounter in university.

Meet the instructors, administrators and other students in your faculty and learn about some of the key advising offered to incoming students like you.

Witness the hilarious and moving side of university life in this annual showing of #UNI, a play developed and put on by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Protected Disclosure in collaboration with the Department of Drama (School of Creative and Performing Arts) and Student and Enrolment Services.

Are you wondering how university will be different from high school? This interactive session will equip you with everything you need to know about studying effectively, talking to your professors confidently and navigate university life with ease.

This session will help you lead a well-balanced life on campus. Discover campus communities that mean something to you in this Q&A session about the importance of personal wellness, getting involved outside of class, and making the most of this chapter in your life.

The Students’ Union welcomes all incoming students to UCalgary on September 4 in the MacHall Ballroom! Win MacHall Food Court gift cards or of pair of tickets to an upcoming MacHall Concert at SU Bingo starting at 5:00 pm. There’s also free popcorn, pop, and tons of other prizes!

Thursday Events

Getting involved on campus is one of the best things you can do to ensure an awesome university experience. Visit the Campus Expo to learn about the key campus services, or to join a student group that  interests you. You also don’t want to miss the free swag, prizes and activities!

The most successful students are those who balance their schoolwork, volunteering and downtime. This event will connect you to the university services that you need to help establish your school-life balance and you'll also learn about the 300+ clubs we have on campus that you can join based on hobbies, cultures and causes that you passionate about.

These tours will help familiarize you with the places where you’ll spend much of your undergraduate career. The classroom tour will show you indoor and outdoor routes to common classrooms for your degree. The study space tour will introduce you to popular study spaces and workrooms, as well as a few hidden ones that are too good to share here.

These workshops will introduce you to the art of proper note taking, provide you with time management tips, and discuss how being an active leaner will allow you to get the most out of your studies.

The Q Centre is a safe, comfortable, and inviting space for the LGBTQIA+ community on campus. Come see what it’s all about, meet our coordinators, check out their volunteer opportunities, and enjoy a great playlist with a side of free pizza.

Students, postdocs, faculty and staff are invited to connect with innovators and innovation resources from across campus at the Innovation@UCalgary Fair, September 5 in the EEEL Lobby.

Friday Events

Wrap up your first week of university with Spirit Day events around campus. In the afternoon, you'll make your way over to MacMahon Stadium for the Tailgate BBQ, Student Union Fun Zone, and the KICKOFF football game between the UCalgary Dinos men’s team and the visiting UBC Thunderbirds.

Join us for fun activities throughout the day and get into the UCalgary spirit! Connect with your campus community and show off your school pride as we kick off the school year.

KICKOFF is a BBQ, theme park and football game all rolled into one. Did we mention that it's also free for you? It is! Join us for a hotdog, jump around in the bouncy castle, get your face painted and watch the football game. This event is a perfect send-off for an awesome week. Make sure you wear red to the event!
