Management of the production and/or service delivery system of the organization in concert with marketing, human resources, finance, and information systems. Management decision making on a continuum from day-to-day operating decisions such as quality control to long-term strategic decisions such as capacity planning. Topics covered in the course may include operations strategy, project management and inventory and supply chain management. Course Hours:H(3-0)
The modelling and analysis of quantitative problems from a variety of fields within business, with emphasis on insight for decision making. Use of optimization, simulation, decision analysis, and other techniques in spreadsheets. Spreadsheet engineering as an approach to reducing spreadsheet errors. Case studies are used to develop skill in dealing with incomplete and ambiguous information. Course Hours:H(3-0) Prerequisite(s):Management Studies 613.
Project procurement and logistics management in engineering, construction management and manufacturing, both nationally and internationally. Topics include fundamentals of procurement management, preparation of request for proposals, the selection of bidders, the evaluation of bids, supplier selection, contract management, control of inventory, handling of material flow and management of warehousing, logistics strategy and global issues. Computer simulation as a decision-making methodology for all areas of organizations. Topics include model development and validation, design of simulation experiments, generation of appropriate values of random variables, interactive procedures and interpretation of results. A user-oriented language is utilized and an applied project is carried out. Course Hours:H(3-0) Prerequisite(s):Operations Management 601 and Management Studies 613.
An in-depth treatment of inventory management and operations planning as related to supply chain management. Topics treated include commonly used inventory control systems, various extensions of the basic economic order quantity model, aggregate planning, materials requirement planning, production scheduling, just-in-time manufacturing, and managing materials along the supply chain. Case studies will be used as well as illustrations of spreadsheet modelling. Course Hours:H(3-0) Prerequisite(s):Operations Management 601 and Management Studies 613.
