Understanding Grief in Life-Limiting Illness Using Legacy Work
Summary
Researchers at the University of Calgary are interested in understanding the experiences of individuals with a life-limiting illness. We want to know how patients make sense of grief as it relates to their illness through the creation of legacy work, which is the process of creating something tangible that outlives oneself. Examples of legacy work include poems, audio-recordings, letters, short-stories, drawings, photographs, paintings, and music. We will be completing interviews (virtually or in person) to ask individuals about their experiences. You will receive a $25 gift card for participating in this study.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 18 to 100
Inclusion criteria:
You are eligible to participate if you:
1) Have a life-limiting illness
2) Are aged 18 years of age or older
3) Can communicate in English
4) Are willing to create legacy work
5) Are willing to partake in a one hour interview session (electronically or in person)
6) Reside in Alberta, Canada
Exclusion criteria:
Who is not eligible?
1) Those under the age of 18
2) Those who cannot read or speak English
3) Those who are unable to provide informed consent due to lack of capacity or cognitive impairment
