Understanding the Family Dynamics of Emerging Adults Diagnosed with Blood Cancer and Their Parents and Siblings
Summary
Researchers at the University of Calgary want to understand young people's relationship with their parents and siblings when faced with blood cancer. We know that young people aged 18 to 29 (emerging adults) are figuring out who they are. In the process, their relationship with their parents and siblings can change. But a diagnosis of blood cancer can complicate existing family relationships. We would like to understand how the experience of blood cancer changes these relationships.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 18 to 29
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
Who is eligible:
- Emerging adults (aged 18 to 29) currently experiencing blood cancer (e.g., leukemia or lymphoma) OR Individuals who experienced blood cancer during emerging adulthood (age 18 to 29).
- Must be willing to engage in an hour-long interview via Zoom or at a mutually agreed upon location.
- Must be fluent in English.
You will be given the opportunity to recruit your parent(s) and/or sibling(s) to the study. Interviews can occur with or without parents and siblings present.
