Understanding barriers and facilitators to the use of personal protective equipment in long term care settings
Summary
We want to learn why healthcare workers (HCWs) at long-term care (LTC) facilities use or do not use personal protective equipment (PPE) well. PPE is very important to prevent infection in LTC residents and the HCWs that care for them. We will be interviewing HCWs at LTC facilities to learn what factors make it easier or harder to use PPE well. This will help us make strategies to encourage appropriate PPE use and prevent infection in HCWs and LTC residents.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 18 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
You are able to participate in this study if: 1) You are a Registered Nurse, Licenced Practical Nurse, or Healthcare Aide. 2) You are working at a long-term care facility, Designated Supportive Living 4 or 4D facility. 3) Your facility is operated by the Brenda Strafford
Foundation, Carewest, or the Bethany Care Society in the Calgary region.
Exclusion criteria:
You are not eligible to participate if: 1) You are a physician. 2) You do not speak the English language.
