Lived Experiences of Gender-Diverse Young Adult Immigrants in Alberta
Summary
The purpose of this study is to understand the unique experiences of gender-diverse, immigrant young adults. It will examine how individual experiences of gender expression and identity are influenced by the immigration process, and how this combination affects the way someone chooses to define who they are and which communities they belong to. This study seeks to learn what kinds of expectations of community members have upon arrival to Canada and how they compare to their experiences, especially those of acceptance and support. The main goal is to uplift and amplify voices from gender-diverse and immigrant communities, to understand unique challenges and concerns, and find out what community resources are available for support and how they can be improved.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 18 to 25
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
1. Gender-Diverse (defined as anyone whose gender identity does not align with the perceived gender norms at any given point in time and does not fit within the traditional binary of male and female)
2. Young Adults (ages 18-25)
3. Self-Identified Immigrants
Exclusion criteria:
Anyone who does not identify as a gender-diverse, immigrant individual between the ages of 18-25.
