Exploring West African Immigrant Women’s experience and perspectives about domestic violence and related supports in Alberta, Canada
Summary
This study seeks to explore how West- African immigrant women define domestic violence, taking into consideration their culture and religious values. Also, the study attempts to understand the barriers immigrant women experience when seeking help from the support services in Alberta.
Therefore, this study will recruit West African immigrant women living in Alberta to better understand their perceptions about domestic violence and related formal and informal supports
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Female
Eligible ages: 18 to 99
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
- African Immigrant woman - From West African origin
- Living in Alberta for 5years or less
- Must be 18years old and older
- Currently involved or previous involved in a heterosexual relationship
Exclusion criteria:
- West-African Trans-gendered women
- Individuals who do not identify as a Black African immigrant woman
- Second generation West-African women
- West- African immigrant women less than 18years of age
- West-African Immigrant women in same-sex marriage or relationship
