The Experience of Combatting Misinformation on Social Media: Tales from the Frontlines of a Global Infodemic
Summary
In this study our team is seeking to interact with scientists, from any field, that share their work and in particular seek to dispel misinformation on social media. In particular we are hoping to discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced this type of science communication. We are hoping to take what we learn in these discussion to begin to construct a practical tool-kit to be encourage others to take-up this work.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 22 to 75
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
Seeking academic participants with research as a part of their current position who have completed graduate level education from an accredited institution who are actively engaged in refuting COVID-19 misinformation on SM and are recognized as experts within their area of expertise as evidenced by (1) peer-reviewed publications, (2) an affiliation with an accredited academic institution or government agency, and (3) followers and reposts of their SM accounts and posts by recognized organizations (i.e., health authorities, media, government agencies).
Exclusion criteria:
Academics who are not currently engaged in the use of social media communication as a means to counteract misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.
