Elicitation study for understanding how users prefer to move 3D virtual objects from standard monitors to Head Mounted Displays

Summary

Our study aims to investigate how a user would prefer to transit 3D virtual objects between a standard monitor and a head-mounted display. Devices such as desktops, laptops, or tablets have 2D standard monitors. They usually have higher resolution compared with head-mounted displays. These advantages are more suitable for tasks that need accuracy and precision. But head-mounted devices such as virtual reality or augmented reality headsets help users better understand 3D objects. Users will be able to interact with 3D objects more intuitively in 3D space. We want to study what kind of input methods users want to use to move 3D virtual objects back and forth between a standard monitor device and a head-mounted device. The outcome of the study will help us gain more insight into building applications that allow users to move 3D virtual objects from a 2D monitor to a 3D space where the user presents.

Eligibility

Currently recruiting participants: Yes

Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other

Eligible ages: 18 to 100

Accepts healthy participants: Yes

Inclusion criteria:

1) 18 years of age or older
2) Able to read, write and speak English
3) Willingness to use a head mounted display

Exclusion criteria:

Minors and people not able to provide informed consent
