Desirable allyship to First Nations and Métis in academia

Summary

The goal of this project is to explore what Indigenous faculty and staff on campus view as an ally in an academic setting. Online focus groups will be conducted with the goal of discussing what are some of the desirable actions, emotions and relational aspects of allyship in the campus community. Participants will read vignettes depicting four pro-Indigenous orientations found in a previous study with undergraduates students. We hope that the participation in focus group conversations will create a space for Indigenous scholars to share their viewpoints and that the result of their fruitful discussions will provide some guidance for those in the campus community who are willing to be an ally.
