Coping with Cancer as a Chinese-speaking Canadian (The 4C Study)
Summary
This study explores how Chinese-speaking cancer patients and their families cope with cancer. We are exploring 3 things:
Aim 1: the use of psychological and language support by Chinese-speaking cancer patients and their families
Aim 2: healthcare providers’ experience with patients who required interpreter support
Aim 3: how Chinese-speaking cancer patients and their families feel about taking part in clinical trials
Patients and their families will complete a survey that explores aims 1 and 3. The survey will be available in both English and Chinese. Healthcare providers will complete a different survey that explores aim 2.
Eligibility
Eligible gender: Male, Female, Transgender, Other
Eligible ages: 18 to 100
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
We are looking for 3 kinds of participants:
1. Chinese-speaking cancer patients/ survivors
2. Direct family members of Chinese-speaking cancer patients/ survivors
3. Healthcare providers involved in cancer care (i.e. medical specialist, nurse, pharmacist, psychosocial support professional, rehabilitation specialist, dietitian, volunteers)
Exclusion criteria:
You are not eligible to participate if you are
1. unable to verbally complete the survey even with the help of others
2. a healthcare provider involved in private cancer care only
