Challenges of the Energy Transition
Summary
Researchers at the University of Calgary are undertaking research to investigate the challenges of the energy transition. The researchers are Dr. Jennifer Winter (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Katharina Koch from the School of Public Policy, and Dr. Ian Gates from the Schulich School of Engineering.
As part of the overall research program, the team is conducting online surveys and interviews to assess the main challenges to overcome to decarbonise Canadian and global energy systems and transition to clean energy. The results from the surveys and interviews will be presented as general conclusions.
There will be no costs to participants and participants will not be paid for participating in this project (either the survey or interviews).
We are keen to access the views of a range of industry, government, academic and civil society representatives. We invite you to participate in either the online survey, an interview, or both, in response to this invitation. Please indicate your preference when reaching out to us

Before you participate, please read the instructions carefully.
Interviews will be recorded with your consent and take approximately 45 - 60 minutes of your time. After the interview, the team will make a full written copy of the recording. The recording will be destroyed after 60 days following the interview. If you choose to participate in an interview, you will have a one-on-one interview with one of the research team members via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, depending on your preference and at a time that is convenient to you. A telephone conversation is also possible if preferred. If you choose to participate in the interview, please provide your contact information in the form below and one of our research team members will get in touch with you. Eligible ages: 18 to 80
Accepts healthy participants: Yes
Inclusion criteria:
1. Professionals having experience or actively working in the energy, environment or climate change field representing government (federal, provincial, territorial, municipal), industry, not-for-profit organizations and/ or academia.
2. Must be 18 years or older
3. Must be able to read, write and speak in English
