Tuesday, September 6th
Acting as a book-end to convocation, at Induction you will hear from a variety of honoured speakers including Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, our university president, and this year’s keynote speaker, Stanford University health psychologist Dr. Kelly McGonigal. An energetic pep rally and faculty cheer off opens the ceremony. Afterwards, head outside of the Olympic Oval for the Presidents’ BBQ where members of our senior administration serve up a tasty lunch.
Wednesday, September 7th
Attend a special orientation hosted by the faculty that you are in, and learn all about the services, resources, and opportunities available to you while you are studying at UCalgary. Don't miss Sexxxy, a great play from the School of Creative and Performing Arts, that gives you a hilarious and moving look at different issues you may face in your time at university.
Thursday, September 8th
With our Orientation electives, you get to choose sessions based on your interests. Want to learn about traveling abroad? Need to know about student awards and scholarships? Wondering about being a Mature or a Transfer student? We have an elective for that. Pick what suits you best, because there’s something here for everyone.
Bystander Invention training teaches students about pro-social behaviour, provides them the opportunity to see themselves as potential Active Bystanders, and encourages them to take action when they are witness to abusive, isolating or stigmatizing behaviour.

Attend this session to increase your awareness about the importance and impact that your digital identity has on your student experience and potential job search. Learn tips on enjoying your student experience and creating/maintaining a digital presence that will impress future employers.
Knowing your strengths and how to apply them is one of the ways that you can create a successful university experience. For students who have already completed their Strengths exploration and discovered their “Top 5” talents, this session will focus on helping you increase your self-awareness, teamwork skills, ability to problem-solve and make a successful start to your university experience.
Through our numerous programs, activities, and resources, we provide you with the tools to start on your leadership journey, and how to grow as a leader during your time as a student to graduation and beyond. Join us to learn more about how you can begin your leadership journey and hear from students who have started in their leadership journey at UCalgary.
Get an in-depth tour of CJSW (radio), the Gauntlet (newspaper), and NUTV (television) on the third floor of MacEwan Student Center. This session will inform new students all about Co-Curricular Record eligible volunteer opportunities at the tri-media facilities with the opportunity to win some cool prizes.
Health and wellbeing are integral to student success, engagement and the overall post-secondary experience. This session will incorporate advice from current and past university students to show what resources are available to help promote wellness and find balance in your life throughout the academic year.
Learn some academic strategies and helpful hints for a successful start to your university career. This session will introduce you to the academic, degree, math, and writing support offered by the Student Success Centre in addition to various programs designed to help you thrive at UCalgary.
“Sustainability” encompasses nature, economy, society and wellbeing. It refers to our ability to meet present needs, without compromising future generations’ abilities to do so. Join us on a tour presented by the Office of Sustainability, to learn about sustainability on campus in buildings, programs and services, and find out more about opportunities to develop skills and get involved with sustainability initiatives at the University of Calgary.
Our mental health affects all areas of our life, including academics, relationships, and our overall well-being. As a student, with busy schedules and deadlines, at times mental health can be neglected. This session will focus on what mental health is, how to recognize signs of declining mental health in yourself and friends, strategies for healthy coping, and how to help a friend who might be struggling.
This session will be focused on connecting mature students to resources, introducing them to the campus community, and providing them with a forum to have their most pressing questions answered.
During the presentation you will meet with experts on awards, student loans and RESP’s. Find out how your current award will be disbursed, and even how to maintain eligibility and apply for loans in your subsequent academic years; explore the government student loans process, understand loan eligibility & disbursements; and find out how to cash in your RESP funding.

Grab a friend and swing by the Library for a little music trivia and try your hand at Name that Tune for prestige and prizes! Learn a little about the Library, our collections and our awesome staff along the way.

Find out how you can spend a week, a month, a semester or a year “internationalizing your degree” while still paying UCalgary tuition and remaining eligible for loans and awards, including study abroad travel grants.
This session will be focused on transfer-student specific issues, such as transfer credits and adjusting to the University of Calgary campus, as well as providing students with a forum to have their most pressing questions answered.

Friday, September 9th
Friday afternoon is dedicated to celebrating the end of Orientation Week and the beginning of the school year by attending KICKOFF. Come to McMahon Stadium on Friday, September 9th to cheer on the Dinos as they take on the UBC Thunderbirds. The Tailgate and free BBQ starts at 3:30pm. Be sure to come early, as only the first 2000 people will receive a delicious Spolumbo sausage or veggie burger. After enjoying the free BBQ make sure to check out the Students’ Union Fun Zone, where there will be lots of exciting games such as bouncy boxing, sumo wrestling, face painting, and more. Don’t forget to help us break a world record by participating in the world’s largest game of Red Light Green Light. The football game begins at 5:30pm and like all Dino games, it’s FREE for students! Bring your friends, wear red, and get excited to show your Dinos pride!
