PIMS Workshop on Forecasting and Mathematical Modeling for Renewable Energy and Public Panel Discussion on Climate Change

When: July 26 ─ July 28, 2023

Where: University of British Columbia, British Columbia, Canada

Our PIMS Colloborative Research Group on Forecasting and Mathematical Modeling for Renewable Energy is pleased to host the workshop on Forecasting and Mathematical Modeling for Renewable Energy. Professionals from mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, atmospheric sciences, and economics are joined to present a broad range of quantitative research problems to aid in the design and operation of wind and solar power systems, as well as their integration into the power grid and electricity markets. Presentations span a wide variety of spatial and temporal dimensions, from individual wind turbines to province scales, and from minutes to years. Some funding is available for students and early career researchers, please apply by May 22, 2023. You can find more information here.

PIMS CRG Award "Forecasting and Mathematical Modeling for Renewable Energy" 2023-2026

We have been awarded a Collaborative Research Group grant by the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences. Our team consists of a diverse group of scientists and engineers including mathematicians, statisticians, experts on wind and solar energy and meteorology, atmospheric sciences, fluid dynamics and power system engineers from U Calgary, U Victoria and Acadia University.

As a part of this grant we will be organizing summers schools, workshops and conferences. Summer schools will provide key training for graduate students by offering a unique combination of courses in areas important for renewable energy such as atmospheric boundary layer, wind farm modeling, spatio- temporal processes, transmission system planning and optimization. Our workshops and conferences are aimed to connect our researchers with world leaders in renewable energy research.

Summer School 2023

When: May 29 ─ June 9, 2023

Where: University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

PIMS Colloborative Research Group on Forecasting and Mathematical Modeling for Renewable Energy is excited to host the first summer school of the program  in person at U Calgary. This two-week-long summer school consists of mini courses, exercise sessions and social events.  There is financial support available for students who are full time attending the summer school.  You can find more information here.
