Spanish 626       Topics in Spanish and Spanish American Prose Fiction
Critical analysis of the most important trends in Spanish and Spanish American prose fiction of the 20th/21st Century. Selected topics might include, among others, the relationship between body and nation building, the bildungsroman, violence and resistance, travel, displacement and sense of place.

Spanish 628       Feminisms and Gender Studies
Critical analysis of historical and contemporary debates in feminist and gender studies. Focus on feminist theories to analyze works by 20th and 21st Century Latin American or Spanish women writers. Examination of the relationship between sex and gender, and the multiple factors (power relations, space, ethnicity, class, nationality) that influence the construction of both femininities and masculinities.

A critical and comprehensive study of Hispanic Film, including genres, movements, histories, distribution, and cultural reception. An in-depth study of cultural identity formations in works by Latin American writers by using post-colonial theories proposed by Walter Mignolo, Nestor García Canclini, Sara Castro-Klaren, and Santiago Castro Gómez among many others.
